The Panama is a hat of many styles. Many more styles have been designed for the male wearer than the female, though these days you see as many women wearing the traditionally masculine fedora style Panama hat as men. It is the workmanship of the hat as much as the toquilla fiber that qualifies a hat to be called a Panama, that and its origins in Ecuador.
