Panama Hats: The Finale

Domesticated llama and alpaca species are raised commercially

The craftsmen who begin the work of weaving Panama hats are usually not the same as those who finish them. The initial weaving takes place in many small villages, most located in Ecuador’s coastal region where the straw grows. It is in the Andean interior where most of the finished hats are exported. Anyone who plans to purchase a Panama hat during their travel to Ecuador will appreciate the workmanship that went into the hat by visiting a workshop where the finishing processes take place.
