The 385-ft Peregrine Mariner (registered as the Akademik Ioffe) is a working scientific research vessel that also operates as an Anatarctic expedition-style Polar cruise vessel offering passengers unique Antarctica travel experiences. The cruise ship was built in Scandinavia for the Russian Academy of Science. The Peregrine Mariner accommodates up to 118 passengers though normally carries no more than 110 for the comfort of its guests. This well-equipped Antarctic vessel has an ice-strengthened hull with bow and stern thrusters and cruises at 14.5 knots in open water, making it state-of-the-art for stability and speed for Antarctica travel and expeditions.

The Antarctica cruise ship's facilities include a lounge and bar, open late afternoon and evening, a library with polar-themed books, a theatre-style presentation room, gym, sauna, swimming pool and gift shop. The ship carries a satellite telephone and fax equipment as well as a variety of shortwave, SSB, and VHF radio systems. An elevator provides access between decks and to the bridge level.

The Peregrine Mariner has a ship crew of fifty-three including a licensed physician with infirmary. The Antarctic cruise ship is well-equipped for a range of passenger activities including Zodiac landing craft, kayaks, camping gear and snowshoes. Advanced GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) equipment is carried onboard, and the ship has two fully enclosed lifeboats with a capacity of 132.
