Day 1 ARRIVE BARILOCHE

On arrival at the airport, you'll be transferred to your hotel in Bariloche. For the rest of the day you'll be free to enjoy the scenery, get acquainted with the area's amenities and unwind. Overnight at a local hotel.

Day 2 BARILOCHE HIKE

The sights and sounds of nature will be the main attraction for today's adventure. You have the option of several mellow hikes depending on your activity level as well as weather and mountain conditions. Your private guide will discuss your options with you. On the less-demanding hike, you'll start the day with a forty-minute guided walk through woodlands on even terrain, viewing the unique region and learning about its history. At the end of the hike, you'll stop for a tasty lunch at a nearby restaurant. One option is Boliche Viejo, a Parrilla near the source of Rio Limay, where the highlight for visitors on Patagonia tours is a delicious asado (barbecue). Alternatively, you may want a longer, full day of hiking in the Bariloche area. Hike amongst the dense forest of native Nothofagus trees and Caña Coihue (local version of bamboo) up to Cerro Llao Llao, from where we can enjoy spectacular views of the Nahuel Huapi Lake and the surrounding mountains, including the glacier covered Mt Tronador. After returning to the trail head, a short drive will take us to Bahia Lopez, where we will hike the Brazo Tristeza Trail to end on a granite dome at the very base of Cerro Lopez. This is a classic scenic viewpoint of Tristeza Bay and Cerro Capilla. After your choice of excursions, you will be transferred back to your hotel for a free afternoon and another restful night. (B,L)

Day 3 BARILOCHE - VILLA LA ANGOSTURA

Today your Patagonia travel takes you to the area's other charming city, Villa la Angostura. Located fifty miles north of Bariloche, Villa La Angostura is surrounded by dense forest and snow-capped peaks, a magnet for skiers in the winter and a hiker's summer paradise. The town is situated on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi at the foot of Mts Bayo, Icayal and Belvedere. Overnight at your comfortable hotel. (B)

Day 4 VILLA LA ANGOSTURA

Today you'll have the opportunity to enjoy one of three activities, depending on your interests:

Option 1: Lake Espejo Kayaking
Today you'll paddle around the margins of Lake Espejo (Mirror Lake) to learn about its ecology and appreciate the lush vegetation. After one and a half hours, you'll stop at a lovely deserted beach for some snorkelling and relaxation. Here you may be able to see trout and perch as well as clam beds and sunken forests. Lake Espejo makes an ideal excursion for fishing enthusiasts. After enjoying a delicious picnic lunch on the beach, you'll paddle back, this time in the direction of the wind, making for a much easier return.

Option 2: Inacayal Waterfall - Belvedere Viewpoint Hike
A few miles from town, you'll spend the day hiking in one of the country's most spectacular settings, through an ancient Andean forest with 164-ft Inacayal waterfall and the Belvedere viewpoint as your destinations. At the viewpoint, you'll enjoy panoramic vistas of magnificent Nahuel Huapi and Correntoso lakes joined by the shortest river in the world while enjoying a refreshing cup of mate, Argentina's national drink, before heading back.

Optional Upgrade:
San Martin de los Andes & 7 Lakes Expedition ($85 per person) - Take one of Patagonia's most famous routes to San Martin de Los Andes. After being picked up at your hotel, you'll head north along a winding scenic secondary route to reach the picturesque Camino de los Siete Lagos (Seven Lakes Road). You'll pass Correntoso, Espejo, Villarino, Falkner, Hermoso, Machónico, and Meliquina Lakes before arriving in San Martín de los Andes on the shores of Lake Lácar. The return trip can be through Paso Córdoba or along National Route 40 via Junín de los Andes and La Rinconada.
At the end of whichever excursion you choose, you will be returned to your hotel for your final evening in the Lake District. (B)

You'll be transferred from your hotel to Bariloche's airport for the flight to your next destination. (B)
