Opened in 2004, Monte Leon is the newest of Argentina’s national parks for visitors who travel Patagonia on Argentina tours. Once operated as an estancia, the land was purchased by environmental organizations and donated to the Argentine government to preserve Patagonian coastal land and its paleontological record. Until 1930, guano was extracted from the park's shores. These 152,500 acres of steppe, cliffs and beaches are located along the Atlantic coast in Santa Cruz Province.
