The 118,000-acre Rio Pilcomayo National Park was established in 1951 to protect the vegetation of the humid Chaco eco-region bordering Paraguay. It is located in Formosa Province along the Pilcomayo River, if you wish to visit the park when you travel to Argentina. Its extensive waterways including rivers, marshes, lagoons, along with its largest body of water, Laguna Blanca, are protected by the Ramsar convention treaty. The park also contains woodlands and gallery forests.
