Your Brazil travel starts in Rio de Janeiro, a sophisticated metropolis of cultural riches, divine cuisine and beautiful white sand beaches. You’ll visit the city’s most famous landmarks by day, spending your evenings living it up, Brazilian style. Then you’ll spend three days on the sublime Costa Verde where the country’s most beautiful beaches are located, in and around the picturesque town of Paraty. Here waterfalls and gorgeous white sand beaches will provide the scenery for your hiking and biking adventures intermingled with relaxing swims and snorkeling. You’ll return home wanting more but with some indelible memories of paradise.

Day 1 ARRIVE RIO / CORCOVADO

On arrival at the international airport in Rio, you will be met by a bilingual guide and taken to your hotel. After checking in, you’ll be taken to see Corcovado where the famous landmark, Christ the Redeemer statue, is found in Tijuca National Park. No other Rio de Janeiro tours are scheduled today. You’ll be dropped off at a pleasant restaurant for lunch and be able to unwind and get acquainted with this fascinating city on your own before retiring to your hotel.

Astounding panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro are the attractions on day one of this tour
When you arrive in the exciting city of Rio, you will be picked up by your bilingual guide to get you to your hotel to check in. The logical starting point for your three days of Rio de Janeiro tours is Corcovado where the massive Christ the Redeemer statue and astounding views the city are the attractions. First, you’ll be taken to Tijuca National Park to ascend 3,350-ft Tijuca, Rio’s highest peak. This 2½-hour hike with your bilingual guide takes you through a restored mountainous landscape of lush Atlantic forest vegetation, the world’s largest urban forest. Before reaching the summit, you’ll pass 100-ft Tounay waterfall and stop at stunning viewpoints with the most spectacular views of the city and the coastline saved for last. Corcovado Mountain is found on the edge of the park, a short car ride away. Visitors may reach the base by conveyance or by walking the 222 steps. You’ll be returned to urban pleasures, either an optional lunch in the artsy Santa Teresa neighborhood or be dropped off in the Ipanema neighborhood for an enjoyable lunch on your own. With today’s scheduled Brazil tours finished, you’re free for the remainder of the day and evening. Overnight at your convenient hotel.

Day 2 SUGAR LOAF / RIO AT NIGHT

Enjoy Rio's beauty and nightlife on Day two of your vacation in Brazil
With no Rio de Janeiro tours scheduled, enjoy a free morning and lunch on your own at the beach. The afternoon outing to Rio’s famous Sugar Loaf Mountain with your bilingual guide starts after lunch. You’ll take a driving tour through the seaside neighborhood of Urca and artsy Santa Teresa to reach the cable car, your transport to the summit for panoramic views of the city and Guanabara Bay. After enjoying the scenery, you’ll return by cable car and then be taken to your hotel. For the evening’s musical Brazil tours, you will be picked up at your hotel by a night-guide. The atmospheric Rio Scenarium is a favorite with Brazilians who love the three floors of entertainment with live bands playing samba and chorinho, and a DJ who plays a variety of Brazilian music upstairs. You’ll have a delicious dinner, a memorable samba floor show and then dance (or people-watch) the night away, returning to your hotel at evening’s end. Another peaceful night in your Rio de Janeiro hotel. (B)
Active Option:
Today you’ll have until 2 PM for Rio de Janeiro tours of your own making or take it easy at the beach before your official Brazil tours begin. Your bilingual guide will take through the beachside neighborhood of Urca to reach the destination on all visitors’ itineraries during their Brazil travel. Most tourists arrive at the summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain by aerial cable car, but you’ll get there on foot, accompanied by your English-speaking guide. The hike begins with an easy half-hour shoreline walk before a steep hike ascent, offering views of Guanabara Bay followed by a short and very safe rock-climb to the top. After enjoying the scenery, you’ll return to Urca Mountain by cable car and walk downhill the last thirty minutes to the base. This evening’s Brazil tours will be led by a night-guide who will accompany you during an exciting excursion through the realm of music and dance. This fascinating destination is the atmospheric hot spot, Rio Scenarium, a favorite with Brazilians who love the three floors of entertainment with live bands playing samba and chorinho, and a DJ who plays a variety of Brazilian music upstairs. You’ll have a quite delicious dinner, a memorable samba floor show and then dance (or people-watch) the night away. End the evening with another peaceful night in your Rio de Janeiro hotel. (B)

Paraty, in famed Costa Verde offers authentic, preserved Portuguese colonial charm along with beautiful beaches, waterfalls and fun activities
From your hotel, you’ll be picked up early for the four-hour drive south to start your next Brazil tours on the famed Costa Verde. On arrival in the serene seaside hamlet of Paraty, you will be transported to your lodgings to check in. After lunch on your own, you’ll take an afternoon walking tour to explore some exquisitely preserved Portuguese colonial buildings, learning about Paraty’s history as an important port during Brazil’s 18th century gold rush. The Brazil tours continue by bike, with your choice of a beach or waterfall itinerary of varying lengths. You’ll have the evening free in this city of fine dining before returning to your hotel for a restful night. (B)

More colonial charm in Costa Verde's hamlet of Paraty
After breakfast, you’ll be picked up at your hotel for the forty-minute drive to Laranjeiras, a colonial town of great significance when sugar was king. Then you’ll continue on to Gaietas beach, along the way stopping for snacks and crossing the white sand beaches of Sono, Antigos and Antiguinhos to swim. After lunch, you’ll stroll Gaietas and swim in its namesake waterfall followed by a short hike to Ponta Negra beach. You’ll return to Laranjeiras by boat before driving back to Paraty. Another free evening in Paraty and overnight at your hotel. (B)

Day 6 PARATY - RIO

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll go island-hopping in the morning, stopping to swim or snorkel, returning to Paraty for a final lunch on your own. You’ll be driven back to Rio de Janeiro, arriving about 9 PM, and check in to your hotel for your last night in Rio. (B)
