Optional Camp Activities

Rafting-Kayaking (or similar)
5 star camping on the Futaleufu The river is what draws most people to the Futaleufu Valley. It goes without saying that this is one of the best rivers in the world! Continuous, big whitewater with rapids rated class III to class V. Depending on your desires you may raft only the class III and IV days or raft the entire river.
We use expert safety kayakers and safety catarafts on all of our river trips. Bio Bio Expeditions was chosen as the safety team for the 2000 World Whitewater championships Championships because of our river expertise and impeccable safety record.
Fly Fishing (or similar)
5 star camping on the Futaleufu Our camp is located at the end of a long, narrow, tranquil canyon which hosts some of the best fishing opportunities imaginable. We have all gear necessary for both fly fishing and spinning and our specially designed catarafts with tractor seats off the front are perfect for casting. We can put the boat into any eddy!
Mountain Bicycling (or similar)
5 star camping on the Futaleufu We have 12 mountain bicycles at the camp. Two full suspension KHS and 10 front suspension Treks. Ride from our camp in any direction for some of the best vistas and riding found anywhere! Also riding back from any of our take outs is always an option.
Horse Back Riding (or similar)
5 star camping on the Futaleufu Our Chilean neighbors "up the river" have a full stable of well-cared for and well-trained horses available for our use. Horse back riding trips into the Patagonian countryside can be arranged at any time. You can ride for an hour or spend the entire day on one of our many special trails. One such trail follows the river Azul towards a towering glacier and our Cascada camp. We have plenty of new sheepskin-covered saddles and gear for your comfort and safety.
Gourmet Dining (or similar)
5 star camping on the Futaleufu All meals are prepared and enjoyed under the "Galpon" This is our log roof deck with open sides and is the main meeting area of the camp. Meal times are always festive occasions at camp. Guests are welcome to join in and help in meal preparation. The tasty Chilean red wine is always flowing and we gather around our hand-made wood table to enjoy our meals by candlelight.
Gourmet-quality meals include goose, lasagna made in the Dutch oven, fajitas, cashew stir fry chicken, fresh salads and homemade desserts every night. We are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements. Vegetarians will love the abundance of fresh vegetables that are harvested daily from the garden. In front of the dining area is our cosy campfire, surrounded by benches, where you can relax and enjoy hot tea or coffee.
Chilean Wine Tasting (or similar)
5 star camping on the Futaleufu We have contracted the service of a Chilean company named "Wines & Outdoors" to offer an excellent variety of fine Chilean wines for our guests to taste and enjoy. Wine tastings are lead by the expert and charming Soledad Meneses who is a trained viticulturist from the wine country just south of Santiago. Each week Soledad hosts a fun and informative tasting that includes the prominent vineyards and their best wines offering our clients an excellent opportunity to learn something else about what makes Chile such an attractive country to visit.
Cultural Exchange (or similar)
We share some or the land where we built our Adventure Base Camp with a wonderful Chilean family, the Diocares. Our camp is located within a 5 minute walk from a true, working Chilean homestead. The warm, friendly family has an open invitation for all of our guests to visit them and share a maté in their rustic kitchen. Or you can enjoy a tour of their handmade tools and abundant greenhouse (where we get all of our delicious fresh produce). They love our guests to come visit their home and take in some of the local flavor. Rolando, the senor of the house, is always up to something interesting whether it be making apple cider from their apple grove or driving his Ox cart. He always enjoys sharing his culture with our guests. The family has a vegetable garden and every meal includes fresh produce from the garden. They also make us fresh bread everyday so you can always look forward to warm fresh baked bread in the morning! The Diocares family is more than willing to take care of all your laundry needs for a small fee.
