From Santiago, you'll be transferred to the airport for a short flight to Calama, where you will be met and taken to San Pedro de Atacama to begin your tour. After settling into your hotel, visit the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), where you will experience one of the highlights of this magical area: sunset. The best place to see this evening transformation from mountains to a lunar landscape is from the Cordillera de la Sal (Salt Range) running along the Valle de Marte (Mars Valley) and the Valle de la Luna. These saline valleys and uniquely shaped mountains of clay are the result of mineral folds hundreds of millions of years old. Enjoy the sunset before returning to your hotel to rest. (B)

Day 4 SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA – CALAMA - SANTIAGO
This morning, an early wake up call pays off with an amazing geological tour of the area. As the sun rises, begin your exploration of the Geysers of Tatio, the highest geyser field in the world at 14,100ft above sea level. Here, the steam columns reach over 165 ft high. This activity originates from water from the Andes Range passes large magma flows deep underground, causing it to boil, steam, and shoot out high overhead. Enjoy a beautiful backdrop of the colorful Andes and the animals that have adapted to living in these extreme conditions, such as the Vicuna, a wild American camel. We continue our drive through stunning landscapes of volcanoes and mountains over 18,00ft above sea level, passing impressive bird species that live off of the rivers flowing to the great Salar de Atacama. Return to the Calama airport for your flight back to Santiago where you will be transferred to your hotel to begin the next leg of your Chile tour. (B,L)
