This Costa Rica ecotour is the adventure of a lifetime, taking you on an exciting two-day descent down one of the world's top five rafting rivers, the Pacuare. Having conquered the river on the first days of your Costa Rica adventure, you will then explore the rainforest at Selva Bananito, ranked by Outside Magazine as one of the top ten eco-lodges on the planet. Then travel to the beautiful Caribbean coast to enjoy the pristine beaches of the area. This is the perfect way to end your tour; rest, relax and soak up the sun before heading home.

Itinerary for Costa Rica Adventure

Day 1 (Sat) SAN JOSÉ

Arrival and transfer to your hotel. If you arrive early for your Costa Rica ecological tour, optional tours of the city can be arranged.

Day 2 (Sun) SAN JOSÉ - PACUARE RAFTING
Today's rafting trip marks the beginning of an unforgettable Costa Rica adventure. You will be picked up at the hotel early in the morning to begin your two-day, one-night rafting Costa Rica ecotour. Before arriving at the banks of the Pacuare River, stop to enjoy a tasty breakfast. Upon arrival at the river, an expert guide will provide you with rafting gear, explaining safety precautions to assist you in the exciting adventure ahead. On the river, you'll pass through huge canyons lined with tall trees and dense vegetation. The thick undergrowth of this protected area provides shelter for a variety of tropical animals and birds, including rare and endangered species. It will take approximately two hours to cover the first day's distance to the Pacuare Lodge, a unique oasis nestled in a beautiful area of rainforest. Its modern wooden bungalows with thatched palm roofs are surrounded by trees, providing privacy and serenity. The two-story main lodge has breezy dining facilities on the first floor and relaxing chairs and hammocks in the open-air second floor lounge. After a delicious lunch, you might try the canopy tour, take a guided hike to a waterfall in the forest, or simply relax in the splendor of the rainforest. Enjoy a delectable dinner and a peaceful overnight stay at Pacuare Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 3 (Mon) PACUARE RAFTING - SELVA BANANITO

After a buffet breakfast, launch the rafts again for a second day of river thrills. The rafting becomes even more exciting as you begin to use the new skills and experience that you gained from the day before. Later on, a tasty midday meal of sandwiches, fruits and sweets is served in a quiet setting along the water's edge. At the river take-out, you can change into dry clothes before boarding the mini-bus that will takes you to Selva Bananito, a small jungle lodge nestled in the Talamanca mountain range near the Caribbean coast. The late afternoon is yours to explore the magnificent mountains and forests that surround you. The seclusion of this quiet rainforest lodge makes for an authentic jungle experience during your Costa Rica travels. When night arrives, relax by candlelight, as the hotel has no electricity. Day 4 (Tue) SELVA BANANITO

After a hearty breakfast, hike the expansive trails of the Selva Bananito Reserve, along the winding Bananito River. You'll see sparkling waterfalls on this day of your Costa Rica adventure, where you might take a refreshing dip in the natural pools to relax in the peaceful setting. Enjoy a picnic lunch next to the rush of waterfalls. The excitement of the afternoon includes climbing a huge tropical tree with the help of a guide and special equipment to reach a lookout platform. The view from above the trees is indescribable. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner and stay overnight at the lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 5 (Wed) SELVA BANANITO - CARIBBEAN FREE Day

Early in the morning, you'll travel to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, a vibrant and friendly community on the south Caribbean coast. After hotel check-in, the day is yours to relax and explore the beautiful Caribbean coastline. Swim, rent sea kayaks or stroll along the beach. (B)

Day 6 (Thu) CAHUITA NATIONAL PARK

Today, discover the fascinating marine life of Costa Rica on a guided snorkeling tour of one of the Caribbean's largest coral reefs with an opportunity to hike the area later. This reef is located in the Cahuita National Park, along a beach lined with countless palm trees, lush vegetation, winding creeks and shining pools. After this portion of your Costa Rica ecotour, you'll return to the hotel by late afternoon and relax at your leisure. Overnight again at the lodge. Day 7 (Fri) CARIBBEAN - SAN JOSÉ

Spend the morning relaxing in Puerto Viejo. At noon, you will be picked up at the hotel and be transferred to San José to spend the night. (B)
