With a different activity planned each day you'll experience what makes Florianopolis a magnet for adventurers on our Brazil MultiSport Tour
We've added a hot new destination, Brazil! So far, we're offering three new trips to one of the country's most beautiful and sophisticated regions, Santa Catarina off the southern coast and its exciting gateway city, Florianapolis. Our Brazil Adventure features hiking and whitewater rafting in some exquisitely scenic settings, and our Brazil Multi Sport is even more action-packed. Santa Catarina is an international mecca for surfers, so we've designed a novel eight-day Surf and Yoga trip that combines the exhilaration of surfing excursions with the relaxation of yoga sessions. These trips all include plenty of free time to experience Santa Catarina's multitude of beaches and Brazilian nightlife. To make the most of your Brazil adventure, we're also added a tour extension in Rio de Janeiro to give you four fast-paced days in the cosmopolitan capital.

No need to rough-it on the Inca Trail anymore, take in Salcantay, trek to Machu Picchu, stay in lodges along the way
If you're thinking that 2008 is the year to experience Machu Picchu, now is the time to start planning. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
  1. Hiking the Inca Trail
If you want to reach Machu Picchu by hiking the Inca Trail, the most popular route to the Inca's secret citadel, reservations start going fast about now. Since only 500 people may hike the trail each day, it's important to reserve a permit while they are still available. This year we've added a lodge-based Inca Trail itinerary to our line up.
  2. New Inca Trail Trip with Mountain Lodge Accommodations
Our thirteen-day Lodge to Lodge Inca Trail combines the rigors of hiking and the comfort of picturesque mountain lodges along the way for a most memorable Machu Picchu adventure.
  3. Inca Trail alternative
For those who prefer the road less traveled, there's our popular eleven-day Alternative Inca Trail adventure offering a scenic Andean experience and a glimpse of timeless Peru to reach the Incan marvel.

Galapagos MultiSport is the most intense way to experience the Islands
Galapagos MultiSport is the most intense way to experience the Islands
Demand for our most popular Galapagos tour, our land-based Galapagos Multi Sport trip always exceeds available space during the popular travel month of December. We're fixing the problem by adding a second December 2008 departure. We anticipate that this trip will fill quickly too, so if you want to experience the Galapagos in 2008, secure your spot soon.

SOUTHERN EXPLORATIONS STAFF ON RESEARCH TOUR
Eric Bartanen - one of two key staff members on a fact finding tour
Eric Bartanen - one of two key staff members on a fact finding tour

Two of our key staff members, Eric and Lacy, are currently on an extensive fact-finding trip, visiting several Patagonia destinations including the Futaleufu River and Torres del Paine National Park in Chile; and Tierra del Fuego and Los Glaciares national parks, Mt. Fitz Roy and the city of Ushuaia in Argentina's Patagonia plus Buenos Aires. In their travels, they are investigating new hotel and refugio possibilities and a new route through Torres del Paine National Park. By getting a first-hand experience of many of our trips' itinerary components, including the rivers, fjords, glaciers and culture, they will be able to better help our customers to plan their Patagonia tours and help owner Justin Laycob design our new Patagonia trips for next season.
