Itinerary

Day 1 ARRIVE PANAMA CITY
Arrival, a Southern Explorations representative will pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel located in the center of Panama City for a one-night stay.

Day 2 THE PIRATE TRAIL & PANAMA CANAL
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart from the hotel and cross the Isthmus via the Transisthmian Highway. Stop at Gatun to explore the locks and the lake. Lunch at the Tarpon Club Restaurant, which overlooks the Gatun Spillway, principal working dam of the Panama Canal and Chagres River. After lunch, cross the Panama Canal by drawbridge and continue to Fort San Lorenzo. Constructed by the Spaniards in the 16th century, San Lorenzo was besieged by British pirates over the years due to its strategic location guarding the entrance to the Chagres River. Sir Henry Morgan captured San Lorenzo and used it as the entrance point to sack Panama City in 1671. Night at hotel in the city.

Day O3 CHAGRES RIVER AND INDIAN COMMUNITY
After breakfast visit a paradise found in its purest form. This tour leaves Panama City at 8:30 AM and begins with a ride in a "piragua" (a native boat) along the route commonly used by the Indians for their daily transport along the Chagres River. A hike through a forest follows, with a local indigenous guide and an expert guide to explain botanical novelties and the culture of this authentic Chocoe-Embera village. In the village, the tribe will share their culture through dances, rituals, food, etc. You will have the opportunity to partake in "jagua", body painting with vegetable ink. Arrival back in Panama City is estimated at 4:00 PM. (BL)

Day 4 CHIRIQUI HIGHLANDS - BOQUETE
Early morning transfer by airplane to David in the western province of Chiriqui. Transfer by car to the picturesque mountain town of Boquete. Enjoy the afternoon in the beautiful Chiriqui highlands with an optional tour of a private flower garden and a coffee tour. Overnight at Villa Marita Lodge or Panamonte Hotel. (BL)

Day 5 BARU VOLCANO / BOQUETE
After breakfast, explore the trails around the Baru Volcano National Park. At an elevation of 7,500 feet, you will have the opportunity to see the elusive and resplendent Quetzal in its habitat of orchids and bromelaids. Box lunch in the field. Overnight at Villa Marita in Boquete. Or, choose the extreme adventure: whitewater river rafting on the Chiriqui River, class IV. (BL)

Day 6 BOCAS DEL TORO - THE CARIBBEAN SIDE
Transfer to David airport for flight to Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean side of Panama, where you will enjoy the afro-Panamanian culture in a beautiful island setting. Tour to Bastimentos National Marine Park. Rest of the day free for town exploration. Night at Hotel Laguna, Cocomo or similar. (BL)

Day 7 BOCAS DEL TORO
Enjoy Bocas del Toro at is best. Snorkeling at one of the nearby islands. Free afternoon for town exploration. Optional mountain bicycle or motorcycle riding. Night at Hotel Laguna, Cocomo or similar. (BL)

Day 8 DEPART PANAMA
Flight back to Panama City for transfer to the International
