Argentina Tours & Travel | Lago Puelo National Park

Originally designated as an annex to Los Alerces National Park, the bio-diverse Lago Puelo was declared an independent national park in 1971. Located in northwestern Chubut Province, it protects a mountainous landscape of Patagonian forest and steppe, high Andes and Valdivian rainforest including the striking glacial lake from which it derives its name and which can be seen on Argentina tours when you travel Patagonia. The 68,400-acre park is home to red fox, puma and the otter-like coipo as well as a large concentration of the endangered huemul and puda. The area's first inhabitants were Mapuches. Some indigenous people still live within the park.

Winter weather is cold and wet with snow, not a recommended time to visit this park during your travel to Argentina. Summers are mild with temperatures reaching 90F. Horseback riding, white river rafting and fly-fishing are popular activities in the park. Services for visitors on Argentina tours consist of a visitors' center, two camping zones and marked trails of varying distances. One can hike into Chile from the park. The closest towns are El Bolson, Lago Puelo and El Hoyo.
