J Bouchon Wine Tour Itinerary

Day 1 SANTIAGO - CURICO VALLEY
After breakfast, you will be picked up at your Santiago hotel for the drive south to the first viticultural destination, Curico Valley. The valley is home to some of the big names in Chilean wine, including San Pedro, the second largest winery in Chile, and Miguel Torres, the famous Spanish winemaker who first introduced modern winemaking techniques to Chile. Here you will learn about the history of Miguel Torres Winery and taste some of its innovative Cordillera brand wines. Next you will visit the new Viña Altacima Winery of Klaus Schröder who has been producing wine in Chile for over forty years, previously with such wineries as San Pedro, Santa Rita and Errazuriz. Viña Altacima is a well-designed, modest-sized winery that produces first-rate results. After visiting the winery, you will have lunch in the Schröder’s home. Your next destination is an hour south in the Maule Valley. Here you will meet your host, fourth-generation winemaker, Julio Bouchon. Chilean “huasos” (farmer/cowboys) on horseback at this tranquil family farm in Santa Maria de Mingre offer a glimpse of times gone by. You will spend the night in hacienda-style accommodations at the winery guesthouse, built in 1890. (B,L,D)

Day 2 J BOUCHON
Today you will have the day to explore your surroundings and experience Mingre life, starting with a tour of the private estate by horseback, mountain bike or on foot. With Julio as your guide, you will learn about the vineyards and natural habitat, its native trees, birds and other wildlife. Returning to the guesthouse, there is time to freshen-up before a private tour of the winery facilities and a premium tasting followed by a delicious homemade lunch with Julio. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon as you like, enjoying a siesta or a soak in the uniquely-crafted Bouchon barrel hot tub. Tonight you will experience a traditional Chilean asado dinner paired with the many fine Bouchon wines. Your evening ends with another relaxing night in your Mingre lodgings. (B,L,D)
-
Day 3 MAULE VALLEY
This morning you will enjoy a fresh country breakfast before saying goodbye to your gracious host, Julio, and continuing your Chile tours. Driving deeper into the Maule Valley brings you to Viña Caliboro where the hidden gem, the estate of Francesco Marone Cinzano, is located. The winery’s Erasmo is a unique Chilean wine that follows a four centuries-old tradition of winemaking excellence by the Cinzano family in Italy. You will tour the winery, which is housed in a beautifully restored adobe bodega and then enjoy a tasting and special lunch in the farmhouse before being returned to Santiago. (B,L)
