Upsala is one of Glacier National Park's largest glaciers and offers the perfect gateway to the huge Ice Cape, the origin of the areas 47-ice flows. Second only to the Park’s Viedma Glacier in size, Upsala Glacier is over 30 miles long and nearly 6 miles wide at Argentino Lake's edge where large chunks crash into the water, surfacing to become icebergs. Named after the city of Upsala, whose university sponsored the first glaciology research in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century, the basin covers nearly 390 square miles.
