Tigre & Delta of The Parana River

Escape the hustle and bustle and explore Buenos Aires natural wonders.

|

From your hotel it’s a 50-minute drive north to reach Tigre, a vast region spread over 5,400sq m. Here, the Parana River flows down into the Rio de la Plata in the form of a delta, creating countless sedimentary islands that are carpeted in lush forest and grassland. Listen to our expert guide as you’ll learn about the exotic flora and fauna that thrive here, and the people who made this natural wonderland their home. You’ll encounter riverside villas, Victorian docks, English gardens, traditional rowing clubs and the Museo de Arte de Tigre, encased in a beautiful Belle Epoque building. If time permits you’ll visit the atelier of artist Sebastian Paez Vilaro, a Uruguayan artist who now lives and works in Tigre and will be delighted to show his impressive bronze and copper sculptures (by appointment only). After lunch at a local restaurant you’ll take a one hour boat trip along the delta of the Parana River, passing the lush islands that number more than 10,000 and beautiful villas that dot the landscape. On the way back to Buenos Aires stop at the small village of San Isidro, where you’ll visit the Pueyrredon Farm, San Isidro Cathedral and Victoria Ocampo’s mansion – a retreat for the most prestigious writers, artists and philosophers of the 1940s. Return to Buenos Aires in the late afternoon. (B,L)
