During the Chile Triangle Tour, you will get the opportunity to experience three unique destinations over the course of 12 days. This tour does the impossible: it takes the complex task of planning a trip to three diverse (and spread out!) landscapes in Chile and simplifies it so that you can see everything you want to see without any stress. The tour’s itinerary is perfect for those who want to enjoy the diversity and beauty of Chile in a relatively short amount of time!
The Chile Triangle Tour gets you access to three exciting destinations: The Atacama Desert, Easter Island, and Chilean Patagonia.
The Atacama Desert
The trip begins with a four day stay in San Pedro de Atacama, where you will get to experience the awe-inspiring Atacama Desert. The Atacama Desert is famous because it is the driest non-polar desert on Earth, but also because of its unbelievable beauty. The consistently arid conditions have transformed the region into a striking place full of stark majesty. Here, you can spend your days exploring the otherworldly sights of the desert, which includes salt flats, geysers, and volcanoes. Be sure to take some time to stargaze at night, as the Atacama Desert is one of the best places in the world to see the stars. The colorful sunsets, which seem to seep into the salt flats and the rest of the landscape, are not to be missed either.
Popular activities in the Atacama Desert include hiking, biking, and horseback riding. All of these activities give you a chance to immerse yourself in the desert landscape.
The Atacama Desert is also home to a rich indigenous heritage. The Atacama people have inhabited the area for thousands of years, and their culture is still evident throughout San Pedro de Atacama and the region. Take some time to get to know the desert’s distinctive history.
Easter Island
After a few days in the Atacama Desert, you will board an airplane and fly to Easter Island. Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, is a remote Polynesian island located in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. Here, you will be able to spend four days exploring Easter Island National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is famous for its colossal moai statues. The moai are monolithic human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people between the 13th and 16th centuries. These monumental sculptures, which, on average, stand 13 feet tall and weigh 14 tons, were carved from volcanic rock and then transported across the island, from quarries like Rano Raraku to ceremonial sites like Ahu Tongariki. The exact purpose of the moai remains a mystery, but it is believed that they had religious significance.
Lush Easter Island offers a lovely contrast against the dry Atacama Desert. The island’s volcanic coastline features dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and pristine beaches. We recommend hiking through the park so you can see all of the scenery.
Be sure to spend some time engaging with the island’s fascinating Rapa Nui culture. The Rapa Nui people developed a unique and impressive culture, which can be witnessed in their art, architecture, and traditions. Rapa Nui culture continues to thrive today, with vibrant celebrations, music, and dance performances showcasing their heritage.
Chilean Patagonia
The final four days of your trip will be set in Chilean Patagonia. Patagonia is internationally renowned for its glaciation. The terrain is dotted with towering glaciers that slowly carve their way through massive mountains, creating astonishing fjords. Like Easter Island National Park, Patagonia’s Torres del Paine National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Patagonia is a hiker’s paradise. In fact, Torres del Paine National Park is considered one of the world’s top hiking destinations. The trails at the park cater to a range of skill levels, with offerings that include everything from easy strolls to challenging ice treks. Any hike through the park is sure to provide you with thrilling topography, with everyday sights including glaciers, lakes, and forests. The park is also popular with hikers because of the wildlife sightings it promises. On a hike, you might see guanacos, pumas, or Andean condors.
You will be able to select guided day trips that are appropriate for your interests and fitness level. The Grey Glacier is one of the most accessible and impressive glaciers in the region. Here, you can watch the glacier’s calving, where chunks of ice break off and thunder into Grey Lake. Another unique activity you can add to your Patagonia trip is boating through the fjords. In the glacier-carved fjords, you can see penguins, seals, and dolphins. Horseback riding is another great way to experience Patagonia the gaucho way.
After a day full of adventure, return to scenic Hotel Las Torres for pampering! The lodge offers many amenities, including a lavish bar, an extensive spa, and a local restaurant. Patagonia is known for its warm hospitality and cultural traditions — both of which are emphasized at the hotel.
The Chile Triangle Tour is the ideal way to experience the highlights of Chile. It is particularly nice for those who think they may only visit Chile once — although, we can’t promise that you won’t want to come back after this terrific tour! Book your tour today so you can enjoy the best of Chile.
