Here’s a geological event you won’t forget! Two days ago, Sierra Negra, a shield volcano on the island of Isabela in the Galapagos erupted after 3 months of increased seismic activity. Normally, we’d have the chance to hike the rim of the volcano, a 6-mile-wide caldera on our Galapagos Multisport Adventure , but visitor sites around the Sierra Negra are closed. Luckily, the eruption isn’t affecting tourists and the area where hotels are located is not in danger. Visits are safe around other areas of the archipelago and our other Galapagos trips are still running as usual. An alternative activity is being offered to guests scheduled to hike the Sierra Negra. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the impressive volcanic action being captured of Isabela, the largest of all 18 islands!
