Day 1 QUITO - OTAVALO View Otavalo accommodations picture gallery Travel north from Quito to Calderon, famous for its figures made by hand from bread dough. The destination is the Awakening Valley, home of the Otavaleños.
Here, take ample time to shop the famous Otavalo market, with its colorful textiles, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, tapestries and more, all at bargain prices. Visit the village of Peguche, where wool tapestries are made, and San Antonio de Ibarra, known for its woodcarvings. Spend the night at a charming hacienda. (B,L,D)
Day 2 OTAVALO - QUITO Take a morning drive to the sparkling waters of Cuicocha Lake where you can take an optional hike around this flooded volcanic crater and its floating twin islets or a leisurely boat ride.
