You have two options for today: one of our great full day hikes in Nahuel Huapi National Park or rafting the world-class Manso River. The full day treks are great for those wanting to just meander in incredibly beautiful areas and those who want to really push the limits. Since the departures are private we can easily adapt the level of exertion to accommodate all travelers. There are two wonderful options for a full day of hiking in the Bariloche area. The first option takes you through dense Nothofagus forests to Cerro Llao Llao, offering impressive views of Nahuel Huapi Lake and the surrounding mountains, including the glacier covered Mt Tronador. After enjoying the vistas, we will return to the trail head to drive to to Bahia Lopez and the start of the Brazo Tristeza Trail. From the granite dome of Cerro Lopez, views of Tristeza Bay and Cerro Capilla come into perfect view. The second and slightly more challenging option is to hike to the summit of Cerro Challhuaco, which is 6000ft high. To get to this area we will drive 45 minutes from the town of Bariloche to the end of a dirt road and the Andean Clubs hut. During the hike we will visit Laguna Verde and Laguna de los Patos. The Giant Patagonian Woodpecker and the majestic condor are common sightings of this area. The lower portion of this hike is a well-traveled trail and the upper most portion requires maneuvering off trail talus slopes.
An exciting excursion of breathtaking beauty through a lush canyon
From your hotel, you will be taken by private van into Nahuel Huapi National Park, along the Manso River to arrive at the camp of John's Ranch. Before the day's adventure begins, you'll enjoy coffee on the beach, change into your wetsuit and receive a safety briefing from the expedition leader. Then it's into the river for an exciting excursion of breathtaking beauty through a lush canyon, ending at the Chilean border. There you'll disembark and change clothes before heading back to the ranch for a memorable Argentine asado (barbecue) before being returned to your Bariloche hotel. (B,L)
