2021 The Inca Trail is Open

We Are Back on the Inca Trail

The Inca Trail has reopened and Peru has eased travel restrictions, giving you a rare chance to experience the Inca Trail with very few others on it.

We are thrilled to be back on the Trail and we've never seen it like this in all our years of operation. For now, the crowds are gone, overall traffic has been minimized, and the whole experience is incredibly freeing.

It's also easier to get into Peru and onto the Trail now. Masks are not required along the Trail (except for the check-in at the trailhead) and face shields are no longer required on the train to Machu Picchu.

Meanwhile, face shields are no longer required on international flights to Peru or domestic flights within Peru. Now, two thin masks are all that you will be required to wear during the flights. Should any of the requirements change for any reason, Southern Explorations will provide all our guests with the necessary face shields.

Now's the rare opportunity to experience a quieter, less hurried Inca Trail! We've put together a few select itineraries - including our Classic Inca Trail, Alternative Inca Trail, Active Machu Picchu, and more - to get you started, and we're always ready to create a custom trip, specially tailored just for you.

You'll find the full list of Peru travel requirements below, and don't hesitate to contact us for any and all questions, that's what we are here for!
