Southern Explorations is excited to announce a new magnificent lodging option near El Chaltén for Patagonian explorers at Explora Lodge El Chaltén In Patagonia. Nestled in the breathtaking mountains in the heart of Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park, Explora El Chaltén is conveniently located near the trailheads of some of Argentina’s most legendary hikes, including Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy. Relax in understated luxury between treks into the vast, awe-inspiring wilderness that surrounds this hotel.
This new hotel is the work of Explora Lodge, known for their well-situated luxury accommodations near some of the most coveted destinations in South America. Built within the private Huemules Conservation Reserve, one of Explora’s longtime conservation partners, the lodge is near the Southern Patagonia Ice Field, the third largest fresh water reserve in the world. It sits on the forested north bank of the Eléctrico River, providing views of the Marconi Glacier and the Eléctrico Valley from its rooms.
The Explora Lodge properties are known for their rigorous guide training; once a guide has worked and trained for Explora, they can guide anywhere. Take advantage of their deep knowledge when you choose from the more than 30 explorations into the surrounding countryside as part of your stay. These include scenic hikes of varying difficulty levels and distances, rock climbing, and overland trips with their well-seasoned guides. Go deep into four distinct terrains: the Conservation Reserve, Los Glaciares National Park, Lago del Desierto and the Southern Ice Fields.
After a full day of exploring, relax by the bar, in the restaurant or in the on-site spa, complete with a sauna, hydromassage tubs and even massages available at an additional charge.
Explora El Chaltén Lodge’s cuisine is thoughtfully curated by Pablo Jesús Rivero and Guido Tassi, the owner and head chef, respectively, of Don Julio, an Argentinian restaurant rated as one of the world's best by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021. The menu is inspired by the landscape. Many ingredients are locally grown, seasonal produce bought from small farmers from the surrounding area who use sustainable methods. Where possible, the dishes also include local wild harvested delicacies.
Aside from sweeping views of the countryside, standard rooms and suites have a king bed, with additional beds and cribs available for children upon request. Rooms have heating and air conditioning, bathrobes, slippers, hair dryers and lockboxes. Standard rooms are 388 square feet; suites are 646 square feet.
Explora El Chaltén is the newest lodge of Explora’s properites. Their other lodges are located in Easter Island, the Atacama Desert, and—the most popular lodge for Southern Explorations travelers—Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. Explora’s lodge in Chile is the cornerstone of our Luxury Patagonia trip.
